Following are a few Franklin half dollars that we have owned for many, many years.  Recently found them in a seldom visited safety deposit box.  They were bought decades ago, for their nice condition.  Time for someone else to enjoy owning them.

Note ... the one below is all that is left, the others were sold.

mednybch.jpg (46905 bytes) mednybchr.jpg (45860 bytes)  This interesting medal shows, in bas relief, one one side the Manhattan Hotel; beneath that it says Manhattan Beach, Coney Island.  Quite a place this must have been.  It was built in 1877, on the far eastern shore of Coney Island.  It was nearly 700 feet long across the front with its covered verandas and acres of manicured lawns toward the sea.  Evening entertainment often included spectacular fireworks display of scenic wonders, famous legends and battles, by Henry Pain.  There were 258 lavish rooms as well as restaurants, ballrooms and shops.  On the opposite side is pictured the Brighton Beach Hotel or Hotel Brighton, again beautifully done in bas relief.  This was a vast wooden hotel with accommodations for nearly 5,000; they could feed 20,000 people per day.  This hotel was frequented by the upper middle class rather than the wealthy, because its location in W. Brighton was too close to Coney Island's seedier section; the Manhattan Hotel, however was used during the summer by the most exclusive and prominent clubs in NYC, the Union and Union League for example, and permanently rented many of the hotel's largest suites.  SOLD
