FL: One of the colorful checks issued by "Colonel" Grover
Criswell, author of widely used reference books on CSA currency and bonds.
Deceased some years now. This check is dated Aug. 14, 1979, and is written
to the Lehigh Valley Rail Road for $23,800.00! We imagine this was to buy
a large group of stocks which Grover often handled. Signed by him, with
that large flamboyant signature. Flamboyant describes him in one aspect,
surely. We show it here because of the relation to the scripophily
hobby. ebay 3/8
Incorporated Under the Laws of Delaware it

the vignette at left; gold corporate seal with incorporation date of 1902;
gold/gilt seal middle near date and between signatures of the Secretary and the
president. This is a super attractive certificate with a smaller vignette
of a storage tank at upper right, a gusher in the frame at mid-right, the same
horse drawn wagon lower right corner, and at the left corner a lovely train
vignette w/steam engine. The maker of the certificate was Gregory, Mayer
& Thom, Co., Detroit. This may be the only example we have of their
work.
AZ: This certificate on the Midwest Oil Company says that the company was
incorporated under the laws of Arizona. It is for one hundred shares of

see. Dated June 4 1919.

Storage Association, of Clarkesville, Ga. It is number 6, and was issued

KY: Above the vignette of the bridge it says United States of
America. It goes on to say Stae of Kentucky, Louisville Bridge Company,
printed sort of around and beneath the vignette. The certificate was done
by German & Bro. Lith, Lou, Ky according to lower rt, and what a vignette
they have produced here. The bridge is a work of art and there are at
least four beautiful riverboat steamers; this takes up nearly one third of the
stock certificate itself. Made to Louisville & Nashville RR Co., for
Five shares. Signed by the Secretary and the President of the company (is
that them in the vignettes?) and dated the 31st day of January 1877 (altered

just after the Great Depression. Central vignette of eagle feeding young;
falls at left; gold corporate seal lower left corner.

Philadelphia, is far more attractive to the eye than to the scanner. The
prominent pink coloring in the scan is far more faint to the eye. All in
all, this is an attractive piece, showing a horse drawn streetcar in front of
the building, central vignette. Dated 1886, Dec. 4. Impressed seal
of company lower left corner; three horses central lower near margin; pen

NY: Dutchess Co., New-York this is a stock certificate on the Stissing
National Bank of Pine Plains. It states that Catherine E. Rossman
was entitled to 35 shares of Capital Stock of the bank of $75 each which was a

1893. Child, strongbox and dog vignette central, and printed by P.W.
Derham, Stationer of Nassau St., N.Y. Hand signed by the cashier and
president, the signatures are punch cancelled, as was the custom when

book from whence it originated. This bank issued first, second, third
charter large size notes, and 1929 small size. Chartered April 5 1865 with
a capital of $90,000. Notes are very rare; R-5 large, R-6 small (source

NC: Stock certificate, Camel City Cab, Inc. A certificate on a taxi
company in Winston-Salem, NC, with stub, written Dec. 20 1948.

here by the Reynolds Tobacco Co. This is a voided certificate. We
have only had two of these, the other is split, thus we believe scarce.
Condition VF, few small edge flaws, not near design. Staple holes where
stub was stapled but we removed for scanning. Most likely a rare

This is a stock certificate printed by the Security-Columbian Banknote Company, for Computer Applications, Incorporated,
a now defunct company that went by the acronym CAI - but other companies have
since used the acronym. An on line search led us to the fact that at CAI, software was written to aid NASA in their managing
of the Voyager project, which was long before the photographic satellites were launched to take pictures of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Also they developed an information storage and retrieval system for the U.S. Navy to aid in the analysis of nuclear warfare. We read that the Ford Motor Co. also found an application there that aided in their training programs for managers and owners of dealerships. Makes one wonder if they were absorbed by another company or what???
In any case, a nice early computer company certificate dated Mar 15 1967.
Cancelled as is apparent in the scan. Order
