Lot 800's  

pinhst.jpg (26146 bytes)  We believe this to be a memorial button, done at his death.  Pictures Harry S. Truman 1884-1972.  Small printing seen at edge on back is hard to read and what we can definitely see is Fargo Rubber Stamp.....beyond that, too difficult.  Very nice condition.  

reptx.jpg (54785 bytes)  From a little group of paper goods we found in Hillsborough, NC, comes this political handout.  We believe it to be from the 1930's but are uncertain.  It tells about the "hidden Soak the Poor taxes" and encourages one to "Vote the Republican Ticket" and stop the spending spree that places this back-breaking tax burden on your family.  $5

Here are some campaign buttons from various years; we bought them more than 20 years ago, in Washington, D.C., from the maker, and most have labels that read PC Button Co., Frank Enten, and the address, also prices that we paid.  

pin2nix.jpg (13388 bytes) In addition to the label mentioned above, this button also has printed on it "Vari-Vue by Pictorial Productions, Inc., Mt. Vernon, N.Y. U.S.A.; also gives a patent number and has a printers "bug".  It was done by Local No. 1, Amalgamated Lithographers, N.Y.  Diameter is 3".  A nice color photo of a much younger Nixon than the one we remember.  

pinagnix.jpg (25895 bytes) This button for Nixon & Agnew in 1968, has a 31/2" Diameter.  On the back is a pin, the maker's name and address and a $5 price that we paid 20 years ago.  But we will sell it today for $5.

pinhumph.jpg (35308 bytes)  1968 Humphrey and Muskie pictured together.  Back has label from maker and $3 price we paid more than twenty years ago.  Approximately 3 1/2 inches in diameter.

pinjfk.jpg (17381 bytes)  A nice color photo of JFK, with the white house in the background.  Inauguration Day  January 20th.,1961.  Beneath the "Man of the 60's" is a facsimile signature by President Kennedy.  About 3 1/2 inches diameter.  Fain scratches, signs of age.  

bltva.jpg (22907 bytes)  A Virginia ballot, or a political handout, as seen in scan.  The candidates are:  For Governor, H.H. Wells, of Alexandria; Lt. Gov. Dr. J.D. Harris, of Hampton; Attorney General, Thomas R. Bowden, of Richmond; Congressman at large A.M. Crane of Winchester, Congress 7th. District, Charles Whittlesey; State Senator 3rd, District  J.J. Robinson;  House of Delegates Orange County, Wm. B. Sanford.  Nice condition.

medgw.jpg (59306 bytes) medgwr.jpg (57379 bytes) A medal commemorating Alabama Governor George Wallace's 25 year career of public service.  Sponsored by a newspaper which was published by The Wallace Campaign.  Gives quite a history of his life, up through the 1972 Presidential campaign where he was shot five times by a would-be assassin.  Franklin Mint did one of these in proof gold, 3096 in solid Sterling silver; 1373 in bronze.  This Sterling silver one weighs .7326 oz. Sculptor Clifford Schule.   $10

 miwilkie.jpg (33152 bytes)  803  Make America Strong - Work With Willkie:  This is a United Republican Finance Committee Certificate of Service.  A $1.00 contribution got you this certificate.  There is a union printer's bug at lower left in the margin.  Issued by the Wayne County Republican Finance Committee.  Pictures Willkie & McNary.  Like new condition.  

bkbrad.jpg (30623 bytes) bkbradb.jpg (30692 bytes)  THE JOURNEY FROM HERE by Bill Bradley, unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic party's nomination for president in 2000.  Prior to that he was a three-time basketball all-American at Princeton, an Olympic gold medalist, a Rhodes scholar, and a member of two championship New York Knicks teams.  He represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate from 1979 to 1997.  166 pp published by Artisan, a division of Workman Publishing Co., Inc.  In like new condition, the book sold originally for $18.  This has a bookplate in the front indicating it was a gift from Fidelity Investments - signed by the author.  Copyright 2000 by Bill Bradley.  This is a thoughtful work, well worth reading.  

ptax99.jpg (27408 bytes)  A pristine condition Receipt for Poll Tax Paid in Labor.  It is #35 issued by the State of South Dakota, County of Bon Homme.  One day of work of eight hours, in 1899, on the public highways then entitled this person to vote.  For more information, research "poll tax".

" and you see the various names, front and back, and the pictures of the main candidates.  These were, as it says, Regular Republican Candidates for the Nomination for Trustees Sanitary District of Chicago, in the Primary, Tuesday, April 13, 1926.  Printers' bug near the point on the front.  $5

Leonard Reinsch who was the radio director of the DNC and had the ear of four presidents: Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy & Johnson. Great pictures including Pres. Carter and a very young Amy...a great read if you are interested in the process as well as the candidates.  A ringside seat at the Democratic National Conventions by one of the greats in the field of broadcasting.  Hippocrene Books; 1988. vagovballot70.jpg (14718 bytes)  WALKER, Gilbert Carlton, a Representative from Virginia; born in South Gibson, Susquehanna County, Pa., August 1, 1833; received a thorough English training and was graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., in 1854; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1855 and practiced in Owego, Broome County, N.Y., 1855-1859 and in Chicago, Ill., 1859-1864; moved to Norfolk, Va., in 1864 and continued the practice of law; also engaged in banking; Governor of Virginia 1869-1874; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1879); chairman, Committee on Education and Labor (Forty-fourth Congress); was not a candidate for renomination in 1878; settled in Binghamton, N.Y., in 1879 and practiced law; moved to New York City in 1881 and continued the practice of law; served as president of the New York Underground Railroad Co.; died in New York City, May 11, 1885; interment in Spring Forest Cemetery, Binghamton, N.Y.  (this information courtesy of Biographical Directory of the U.S. Congress).

Folk and Bynum Shaw.  Illustrations picture Ellis, Vance,  among others.  Holden was the Reconstruction governor of North Carolina.  Tightly bound.
