We have some new CSA currency on this page now in  February.  We hope you find something you like.  Please email us with any questions:  Email CandJ and we will be happy to answer.   Out of habit we use Criswell numbers as we have not learned the Fricke system, though we certainly admire the book.

Please inquire if something lacks a price?

confwdoc.jpg (88732 bytes) confwdocb.jpg (55334 bytes)  Here we have a most interesting historical artifact.   There is a CSA $50 Confederate note which depicts CSA President Jefferson Davis; a nice, bright pink example. We consider this note to be about uncirculated; printed in dark red ink, more scarce and quite beautiful.  It is accompanied by a letter from the Mayor of Petersburg, VA, in 1965, stating that this was one of a number of notes found secreted in the courthouse, found during restoration of the building.  Bid is for both the letter and the piece of genuine currency, as a lot.     $95

csaford.jpg (30754 bytes) csafordr.jpg (29965 bytes)  A genuine CSA $10 note with advertisement on back for Ford's Theatre.

csat30.jpg (51843 bytes) T-20 A twenty dollar type 20 Confederate note.  Dated September 2, 1861.  An amazing full margin (this almost never occurs on this note) note which is bright, clean Extra Fine.  Printer B. Duncan, Richmond.  This beauty is Criswell 141.

CONFTY36.JPG (65042 bytes)  T-36  A CSA $5 note, well circulated.  There are half moon cancels at the signatures, a common practice.  This is second series, dated September 2, 1861.  Note grades VG, COC.

csat40.jpg (28227 bytes)  T-40 Train $100  This one hundred dollar note, from the Confederate States of America, dated 1862.  This note with milkmaid left, train center, was spent many times and shows it.  Condition AG.  Main design elements still evident.

t40.jpg (41891 bytes)  T-40  Train $100 Diffused steam, nice CU condition.                                       Order T-40 $100

csat42.jpg (43684 bytes) T-42 C-337 Third Series  We call this note Very Fine.  A two dollar note depicting South Striking Union in its central vignette; Judah P. Benjamin at left.  Virtually full margins which is unusual for this note.

csac46.jpg (58937 bytes)  T-46  C-344  This is a double error note, as the date is wrong - should be 1861, though printed is 1862, second error no S on Month(s).  We call this Fine to Very Fine.  This note has full margins (unusual).

csat52.jpg (48380 bytes) T-52  C-376 A ten dollar Confederate note of December 2, 1862.  We call this VF-XF.  This is virtually a full margin note which is unusual.

csat55c397.jpg (42510 bytes)  T-55  C-397  A one dollar note dated December 2, 1862.  We call this note better than Very Good but it has a stain on the back.

csat55.jpg (26758 bytes) T-55    $1 1862 A very nice note, condition AU.  Very slight ink erosion in right signature, but not bad.  Order T-55 $150

csat59.jpg (29549 bytes) csat59r.jpg (28175 bytes)  T-59  A $10 note of 1863.  This is stamped at right, on front, July 1863 date.  A most attractive XF-AU note.  Order T59  -  $75  HOLD

Contemporary Counterfeits (during the War):

csact20141.jpg (53063 bytes) CSA CT20, C 141   This note has printed signatures, written numbers.  It was done by S.C. Upham.    Extremely historic and interesting, it is more attractive to the eye than to the scanner.  Four margins; complete.  Because of foxing which is not that disturbing we call this note AU.  We have owned it for forty years.  It came in a hoard of type 20 notes, showing that it was actually in circulation in the South, during the War.  ebay 12/2.

bkful.jpg (132136 bytes) CONFEDERATE CURRENCY & STAMPS by Claud E. Fuller.  This is an extremely scarce book, and we have only ever owned this one, in fifty years of dealing in Confederate currency and related items.  There are 236 pages of history as well as terrific illustrations of both currency and stamps, bonds, some in color.  Published by the Parthenon Press, Nashville, Tennessee, under the auspices of the Tennessee UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy).  Copyright date of 1949.   ebay 1/16  SOLD

bkrh.jpg (97455 bytes) bkrhb1.jpg (105734 bytes) bkrhb2.jpg (86278 bytes)  CONFEDERATE STAMPS, OLD LETTERS and HISTORY is printed in gilt across the top of this old book, and below that the CSA flag, the Stars and Bars, in gilt.  There are 88 pages, including appendices, plus two letters accompany this scarce book.  They are from Mrs. Mary Gibbons Bryan, Dept. Archives & History, Dept. of State, Georgia and dated March 27, 1959; the second is from McCowat-Mercer Press, Inc. of Jackson, Tennessee with facsimile signature of Seale Johnson, President.  They are letters of praise and thanks.  The book, itself, is signed by the author:  "This book is presented to my friend, Glen Parham, February 2nd. 1959, Raynor Hubbell".  Glen was a noted collector of CSA stamps and covers as well as numismatic items.  Raynor was a legendary Confederate researcher, collector and dealer.  They were both friends of Claud's.  Sadly, they are both gone now.  Out of our personal library.

bkconfsl.jpg (108897 bytes) bkconfsla.jpg (35339 bytes)  Here is a 10th. Edition of Confederate States Paper Money which covers both Confederate and Southern States issues of the American Civil War (1861-1865) and the Reconstruction period.  Exclusive photographs; data on uncut sheets, advertising notes, errors, bogus and enigmatical issues; the most complete coverage of Upham and other facsimile notes; Fascinating information about the Confederacy and the individual Southern States.  For more than 40 years this catalog has been a primary source of data on Confederate currency.  Gives values.  This book was done by a dear old friend, very recently deceased, and it is autographed by him.  Arlie was truly a "gentleman and a scholar" and the 254 pages contained herein give valuable information.  We were contributors to this book.  We are truly saddened by the loss of this lovely person.  SOLD

confbkmk.jpg (8547 bytes)  A silk bookmark, an advertisement for John A. Fox at 446 Nassau Street, New York 7, N.Y.  Depicts a CSA stamp.  Interestingly, an online search following information:   John A. Fox, a prominent dealer and auctioneer, of not too many years ago (he died in the mid 1980's), created fake CSA Postal History and passed them into the collector's market through his dealership and auction house. After this was discovered and exposed, many of the covers have since been removed from the
marketplace. But an unknown number are still residing in collections.  His creations are actually quite well done, but he did occasionally make some mistakes.  Beware the Fox Fakes. Some but not all are signed. And some do also have legitimate addresses as they were made from hand carried covers which originally had no stamps or postal markings.  Please inquire about this silk.

confcvr.jpg (12720 bytes) A Confederate cover with Confederate Scott #11 tied to cover with Woodville, Ga. Oct 3 cancel.  Addressed to Macon Ga in light ink.  Scarce.  Paper missing on back.      Please inquire

Watts chapter.  There is an opening prayer and ritual, you see the pledges to the two flags above as well as a pledge on the next page to the Virginia flag.  We seldom have any paper UDC articles.
