prntind.jpg (140546 bytes)  Before the Battle - this lovely item was done by D. Appleton & Co.  It shows a group of warriors being blessed by a shaman before going into battle.  If you collect depictions of Native Americans (Indians), this may be for you.  This is a pristine photogravure by Goupil & Co..  We believe this may be a proof pull of the plate because it is very dark, very distinct, the plate is deeply impressed into the paper, and it was apparently cut by hand.  $20

ltrpills.jpg (54860 bytes) ltrpills2.jpg (57437 bytes)  July 15, 1900, a young girl wrote to her mother on this letterhead.  As you read the letter where "Uncle Eb is pounding away down stairs making pills",  you learn that she (Alice) is visiting Aunt Jennie and Uncle Eben Gill.  You see at the top of the letterhead that he is the proprietor and manufacturer of Gill's Bilious and Liver Pills.  Aside from liking the patent medicine letterhead, we enjoyed the peek into the life of a girl in 1900, where they "were going to make some calls", she asked for her paints and paper from the paper press to make her aunt a picture, she mentions that here the young women play tennis, etc.  A different time, indeed.
