fascinating, complete listing of all the black people up to that time who had a
significant place in history. Slightly worn, as seen in scan; binding
slightly loose; overall quite good. The
Illustrated Biographical Directory of Notable Living Persons of African Descent
in the United States. Hardbound green cover w/gilt
lettering. Quite decent condition. More than six hundred
pages. Pictures galore. Our price: $25 even though in the past months, we
have seen this book listed at up to $100- makes $25 looks like a bargain, right?

the frontis: Betty Alden, The First-Born Daughter of the Pilgrims by Jane

Press, Cambridge 1898. 384 pp. Quite nice condition. HB, the
cover is done in shades of brown, binding intact, illustration titled "The
Captain's Hill". From the Preface: .... her story will be found
threaded through that of her people and her times in that modest subordination
to which the lives of her sex were trained in that day. As one interested
in New England, as well as American history, I found this quite worth
reading. In any case, she was Elizabeth, daughter of John and Priscilla
Alden, wife of William Pabodie. $5

Great photos, 532 pp, condition as seen in scan - some wear, has certainly been
read. Original price was $18, we think $6 is reasonable.
PERSONAL MEMOIRS OF U.S. GRANT This is the two volume set, written by the President, in the time shortly before his death, in the hopes that he would leave his wife some income. Frontis a very nice engraving of Grant with facsimile signature; this two volume work dated 1886 and done by Charles L. Webster & Co. New York. Please inquire......
