sctryon.jpg (21357 bytes) sctryonb.jpg (15007 bytes)  A souvenir china ashtray which shows Tryon Palace at New Bern, North Carolina.  We are uncertain of when it was done; there is a seal reading "Tryon Palace Restoration" so may have been done as a fund raiser.  The dates of the Colonial Capitol and State Capitol are given.  Quite lovely, it was made in England, by Wedgwood.  No chips, no problems, like new.  Diameter is approximately 4 3/8".   

envwa.jpg (41179 bytes)  Olympia Washington, Nov. 11 1939  This envelope has the Seal of the State of Washington and a stamp that is a photograph of the state capitol at Olympia, and there is printed Population 1,651,000.  This envelope was done to commemorate the 50th. Anniversary of Admission to the Statehood of Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana.  It was mailed using the stamp issued to commemorate the event.

bcowi.jpg (14752 bytes) bcowib.jpg (12812 bytes)  From the Western State Bank, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, comes this card with a penny attached (1964 D) as center of safe opening.  "Who Says That We Don't Give Away Samples?"  A cute advertising card for a bank.   make offer

tkt76.jpg (23567 bytes)  A ticket to the United States International Exhibition in Philadelphia.  This was the Centennial of Independence Exposition.  A facsimile signature of the Genl. Manager Dept. of Admissions; number 81274; this ticket was a "Package Ticket" and the dates were from May 10th. to Nov. 10th.  please bid at least $12

2envcw.jpg (38815 bytes)  Two different Civil War patriotic envelopes.  One is anti-South, the other pro-Union.  These were a very popular collectible right after the War.  They are historical and have regained popularity today.  

envsusp.jpg (24656 bytes)  We just love this one.  An envelope that advertises "Keep your pants on with the Atwood Suspender".  It was manufactured only by the Swanton Suspender Company, Swanton, Vermont.  It looks like the postmark is from April 1901.  An embossed two cent stamp upper right corner; sent to Alexandria, VA from Swanton, Vermont. make offer

envtoyco.jpg (28097 bytes)  This envelope sent Dec 6 1899, was from The Schwarzkopf Toy Co., No. 2 N. Liberty St., Baltimore, Md.  I guess we kept it for the same reason the original recipient did - it is attractive and interesting.  

docussnt.jpg (111471 bytes)  Such an historical document, this is from the United States Senate and dated July 12, 1939.  It refers to a pension for the widow of Lloyd W. Higgins, who had been a Private 1st. Independent Battery, U.S. Colored Light Artillery.  The letter goes on to discuss that if she is proven to be a Civil War widow she should get an increase in her pension, from $30 a month to $40 a month!  The signer of this letter is Arthur Capper, who was a two-term governor of Kansas and a five term senator.  The Kansas State Historical Society has much information about him if you wish to learn more.  

docga.jpg (149722 bytes)   A financial document from Georgia, dated 1832, at the capitol of Milledgeville (at that time).  It is signed by the Treasurer and Comptroller General of Georgia.  This states that there is no claims against several individuals (named).  We assume this means that they owed no taxes to the State of Georgia.  Unusual item.  Folded for docketing; paper crisp and clean.  

env.jpg (67975 bytes)  A business size envelope sent to a Mebane NC address, and the reply envelope that was included, hopefully to be sent back with an order.  Date of postmark is 1945, Martha Washington  1 1/2 cent stamp.  On line research shows that this person probably owned the Liberty nickel and sold it to Eric Newman.

tcmga.jpg (24519 bytes)  A trade card from Macon, Georgia.  Not a  common theme, it advertises for a buggy maker.

bksmov.jpg (116324 bytes)  This is a wonderful book about the silent movie era.  Published 1990 by Brompton in GB.  We find it is in near new condition.  It is 12 1/4 x 9 1/4".  There are 192 pages with so many illustrations.  Dust jacket is in nice condition, though few minor faults.  $10 suggested minimum bid, please?

st3.jpg (156118 bytes)  Here is a complete set of overrun countries name blocks.  These are the equivalent of plate blocks since the American Bank Note Co. did not put a number on their plates.  Scott 909 to 921, pristine, mint, NH except for 911, which is lightly hinged in selvage, not touching the stamp.

abncocovr.jpg (171471 bytes)    Chicago album cover, engraved by American Bank Note Co.  This is a steel plate engraving, same as U.S. paper money.  This is quite detailed, and shows beautiful detail.  Please send us your offer?

bkmolino.jpg (31992 bytes)  bbkmolino.jpg (25944 bytes) This is a small cookbook, about the size of a greeting card.  It has more than 900 pages; some toward the back are not numbered, but contain wonderful information about grains, storage, composition of food.  From El Molino Mills, Alhambra, California.  There is no date but for those who were looking for a Health Food Store, places such as Chicago 6, Detroit 21, and New York 3 are given, which makes this late 1940's or early 1950's before zip codes.  Wonderful information inside, as well as illustrations, many many recipes, measuring, etc.  Spiral bound, in very nice condition.  $3

blotbnkbostn.jpg (79388 bytes) First National Bank of Boston - this is a set of  blotters, unused, and dated 1950.  apparently they were given away by the bank as a promotion.  January depicts Fanueil Hall; February the First Board of Health had Paul Revere as its first president; March shows the only New England hospital for children "aboard ship" - the Boston Floating Hospital est. 1894; April shows the first gymnasium est. Charlesbank 1889; May has the first horse car line opened 1856 and shows trolley cars; June pictures the first street letter boxes put in operation in 1858; July - the first vacation school founded 1866, had classes and play and trips to the country, est. 1866; August pictures the first public charity in Boston - the Boston female Asylum est. 1800; September first Animal Rescue League incorporated in the United States, founded 1899; October shows work study Northeastern U with much history; November first copyright law in America 1672, John Usher - paper and printing covered w/history; December first architectural school Massachusetts Institute of Technology founded 1865.  Each of these has good graphics and pictures an important historical event; they deserve more description than there is space for here.  Wonderful for the collector of national bank notes or anyone interested in American history as well as Boston.  We'll include the green grosgrain ribbon so you can give the set as a gift.  

hotelpage.jpg (103390 bytes) hotelpageb.jpg (99948 bytes) hotelpageh.jpg (75406 bytes)  A page from a hotel ledger, the Bridgewater Hotel, May 21 and May 22 1895.  Some of the names seem significant but we are not certain who they are; the Courson or Carson, for instance, with the Buffalo Bill Shows.  Many of the other names sound familiar but....... in any case, bought years and years ago in Massachusetts - think we only have the page, haven't seen the rest of the ledger. .. please email for more information?

 

scliberty.jpg (14912 bytes) sclibertyb.jpg (9573 bytes)  A souvenir china dish picturing "Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Philadelphia, Pa."  This goes along with our offering patriotic and/or American History themes, which started with Memorial Day and goes through the Fourth of July.  Dish is almost 4" in diameter; there are no flaws seen.  Suggested opening bid $4.35

  

VATICAN.JPG (107571 bytes) VATICANF.JPG (48764 bytes) "Anticamera Pontificia" is the title across the top of this yellow document, just below the papal arms.  It is #414 and kindly, someone with Italian is tells us that it is for admission to an audience with the pope.  The printers mark:  Tip. Vaticana, 24-8-27 is beneath the border, central.  There is a watermark that can be seen in the scan.  Instructions for proper attire are given in Italian, French, German and English - this reads "Ladies in black high gowns with veil; Gentlemen in dress coat and white tie - Ecclesiastics in cassock and <ferraiolone>.  Our thanks to the nice person who shared the following information:

A ferrailone is an ecclesiastical cape worn over a cassock that reaches to the floor. It is lightweight and is used for ceremonial occasions.


lib.jpg (162262 bytes)  Anti-slavery Newspaper:  The Liberator Boston, October 5, 1860.  Edited by William Lloyd Garrison, on of the most outspoken anti-slavery advocates of all time.  Front page has news of Bell-Everett presidential convention; an anti-slavery speech made by J. Thomas Stevenson, a letter to President Buchanan.  This is a very interesting and historical newspaper, in nice condition with a few minor faults but entirely readable.  Rare.

 lab1.jpg (210405 bytes) Fifty different, unused, pre-prohibition whiskey labels.  Colorful and interesting.  One pictures a Ford tri-motor type plane, another a train.  Notice the label at lower right - this was a vintage distillation, as it was colored and flavored with wood chips - yum?  There is no duplication, all fifty are different.  SOLD, but we do have one more,  similar.  Please inquire.
